It’s interesting the way that naturalism, as you suspected lingers on into postmodernity. For example the way that Michaels reads naturalism is critically postmodern, we contonie to have writers using modernistic tropes like “consumption” to describe subjection to violence, commodification, and reification.

Blanche Gelfant has an article in Pizer’s companion that connects Carrie Meeber of _Sister Carrie_ with Mary Anne a character in one of Tim O’Brien’s stories in _The Things They Carried_.
