I'll try to do a decent job summarizing Gold Standard. I was thinking at some point of revisiting the Jameson afterwards. Once upon a time, I think we were going to look back at a couple chapters of Postmodernism, Or.

It's interesting the way that naturalism, as you suspected lingers on into postmodernity. For example the way that Michaels reads naturalism is critically postmodern, we contonie to have writers using modernistic tropes like "consumption" to describe subjection to violence, commodification, and reification.

I'll have something more on this up later tonight. Blanche Gelfant has an article in Pizer's companion that connects Carrie Meeber of _Sister Carrie_ with Mary Anne a character in one of Tim O'Brien's stories in _The Things They Carried_. Which seems to capture the connection to Viet Nam we've been discussing in the context of visual consumption, and provides an access for Baudrillard to enther the fray.

Thanks for the encouragement on Michaels. I'm appreciating the way that our two fields communicate.

I'm going to stop saying things like "I need to read X," but one of the pleasures of reading Cerebral Jetsam is it reminds me what some of those X's are. Appreciate your stuff on Adorno today.

Having steadfastly refused to read this particular book of his yet, I would be greatly interested on your thoughts on the _Gold Standard_. I am already quite excited (especially, because I am still so disturbed by the degree to which Jameson enjoyed the book).
