Btw, I always enjoy your uncompromising views on things, whether it be on this issue or on my view of the case of overweight people. It's very becoming in the age of pseudo-postmodern, shilly-shally pseudo-hipness and good to fight the laziness of thought.

@TBoy68: I reject the idea that a person's constitutionally protected right to free speech is something that gets figured out after the person is in custody. That's like saying we'll see if the person has any rights after we've violated them. No. That is not the deal.

So our sympathy is to go to the poor police who "were having a hard time" violating this fellow's rights. You seem to believe that police who don't get their way (despite the fact that the person is saying he'll leave) have a right to use force.
I disagree. It's the behavior of cowards.

I don't think the crowd was at risk from the man being restrained. They were at risk from the police. You've got it backwards.

2 of them were placed on administrative leave. They should be fired, and tried for brutality.

Here is the deal. Once law enforcement tells you to do something and you don't reply they can place you into custody. If the cops are wrong you figure that out afterwards. Sometimes in court and sometimes before it even goes to trial depending on if the DA thinks the police have a case. Regardless of the content of what he was saying he was told to stop. Also just because someone is on the ground does not mean they’re in “custody”. The police were attempting to cuff him, but were having a hard time. That’s when the tazer came out. Watch the video again and don’t listen to what he is saying, and you will see that he is resisting. If any of you think that it’s easy to handcuff someone while they are resting I suggest you try it on someone. Even a two hundred pound man will have a hard time with a hundred and ten pound woman. Especially when you have to do it without hurting them. Also what would have happened had the police not tazed him and someone in the crowd had gotten hurt during the scuffle. Now everyone would be saying they should have tazed him. As soon as those police showed up to the rally they were screwed no matter what. I could be wrong but I thought I heard that two of them were placed on administrative leave.

Some may be applauding initially, but then as they watch the poor kid being held down and electrocuted there seems to be sentiment in the crowd that the proceeding isn't right. Someone yells "police brutality." There should have been a riot. I can't get over Kerry just watching. And what does it mean for a crowd to be apathetic about someone being wrongfully silenced?
