Ghost Rider

I was going to write a post about Ghost Rider, a decidedly sub-par effort directed by Mark Steven Johnson. But my interest, as also when watching the film, has quickly flagged.

More interesting is Suicide‘s Ghost Rider:

An auspicious start Happy Bastille Day!

I must admit that I quite enjoyed Ghost Rider. I didn’t know anything about it,but basically went because I wanted to watch a movie in the Gmundner Stadttheater (have a look at the screening room: ) and that was the only movie showing.

I expected a stupid romantic comedy and found Nicolas cage in his wig highly entertaining. The cowboy character (including the actor) was borrowed almost identically from Big Lebowski. And I was once again surprised that in America skew teeth may suffice as a make-up (the evil fella).

So not expecting much, I had quite a time – even though I didn’t get to see the screening room, because they showed the movie in a tiny box adjacent to the theatre #-)

Wow, it would be hard not to appreciate any film in that screening room. It’s lovely. Sorry you didn’t get to see it there.

As a popcorn movie, that is, the kind that you arrive at expecting lots of color and little character, Ghost Rider fine. I enjoyed the ghost riders’ tandem ride across the desert while an up-tempo “ghost riders in the sky” nipped their heels.

The supernatural bad-guys came across as fairly generic, though, and mephistopheles looked as though someone, possibly himself, had farted in the room. I confess being put off by the love story. Capturing an uninteresting girl to ransom anything gets a big yawn from this critic. They could have at least tied her to some supernatural railroad tracks and put a mustache on Nightspawn, or Black Diurnal, or whatever the son of satan is going by these days.

We love skew teeth in America–see Megatron in the now playing “Transformers” movie.

I need to see the Big Lebowski!!
