Bullying

Well clearly the person who was good enough to put up the clip below from The Ant Bully is sufficiently threatened by the idea of collectivity that his or her (I’d put money it’s a white, his) imagination runs straight to totalitarian. It’s impossible and threatening to imagine profound cooperation. Best to naturalize discord and re-boot capitalism.

I take the red baiting on display as a sign that the collectivity still has (many) legs.

A particularly uninspired version. Interesting that communism is still considered a threat.

It is interesting. Sad that a beautiful emancipatory science has been so thoroughly smeared with the taint of Stalinism, smeared quite naturally by the interests of a pestiferous bourgeoisie who still apparently find it expedient to corral the cowed with imaginary terrors like the threat of comity amongst people whose faith that the future need not resemble the past is coining world-historical justice one consciousness at a time. They have much to fear, the bourgeoisie.

And slave mentality makes it worse. More than the bourgeoisie, the caged souls that aspire to it do scare me. Those who have a master to lose.

Slave mentality is an enormous problem with no easy solutions. Are the caged souls those who aspire to communism? Is what’s scary the potential violence attendant upon the forceful assertion of someone’s utopia, a utopia that may very well fail to resemble your own?

That seems to me to be a very reasonable concern. Frequently people associate (for valid historical reasons) the idea that a revolution will entail a vanguard group perpetrating what it identifies as the interests of the masses upon those masses. This is of course the wrong way to proceed with a revolution.

The job of a vanguard is rather to organize the masses and listen to what they want. So, communism as a truly democratic people’s program is what I (and the ants?) support. This involves a lot of teaching. And seems a distant goal. May not see it in this life. Our job, I think, is to keep the embers warm so that when the time is right, if ever, everyone will move to own the means of production and there will be a party in the street for the likes of which there is no historical antecedent.
